Pacemaker Memory Tricks - Nursing School/NCLEX Review (4 of 4)
In this video, we'll explain how to properly set up and operate your patient's Pacemaker, a topic you'll most certainly see on the NCLEX. Part 4 of 4.
A pacemaker has three different modes or special features that are customized based on the patient’s heart requirements. These pacemaker modes are:
• Demand
• Fixed rate
• Automated implanted cardioverter defibrillator (AICD)
The automated implanted cardioverter defibrillator is the ultra-upgraded pacemaker version that can deliver an electric shock.
Pacemakers after Surgery:
Pacemakers after being surgically implanted have six most tested topics that usually come out on nursing tests and the NCLEX. Post-operative patients are instructed to watch out for the three I’s, namely:
• Immobilize the arm
• Infection
• Inspect heart rate and blood pressure
Study the fun and fast way, while retaining more and grasping key concepts to get more prepared for your NCLEX & Exams. Sign up for a free trial at http://simplenursing.com/free-trial-yt.
Patient Education
For long term maintenance, patients with pacemakers are instructed to do the acronym, S-I-R. On the other hand, there are a couple of things to avoid like contact sports and constrictive clothing. There are four M’s that are also needed to be avoided which is considered as an essential NCLEX tip question. Find out what they are in this video.
This is an important topic for the NCLEX exam and in this video, I give you a really great introduction to some concepts, including the signs and symptoms of Hyponatremia, nursing interventions and more!
