How does lowering a CPU's power limit in BIOS affect its performance? That's what we'll find out, for AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D, AMD's Cezanne platform, and Intel's Alder Lake platform.
Pay attention to the performance of AMD's 5600G and 5700G. These two are particularly well optimized for low-power use, when compared to the other AMD options. Also, look at the Intel i9-12900T. This CPU has lower frequencies than the i9-12900 and 9-12900K, and is made for low-power uses, but is there actually a benefit over the 12900 and 12900K? It turns out no, the 12900 and 12900K perform better at all power levels. At a similar price, you might as well purchase the 12900 instead and manually set the power limits to the desired level.
