Flying with a gun in the U.S. is legal when you follow the rules — but TSA rules are only part of the story.
In this video, we break down how to fly with a firearm in the United States, including TSA rules, airline check-in procedures, locked hard-sided gun cases, ammunition packing, declaring a firearm at the ticket counter, and why state law matters after you land.
The biggest mistake gun owners make is thinking there is only one rulebook.
There isn’t.
TSA and airline rules control how the firearm gets packed, declared, screened, and flown. But once you claim your bag, the question changes. Now you have to deal with destination law, local restrictions, magazine laws, ammo laws, permit reciprocity, and what happens if a cancelled flight or overnight layover forces you to take possession of your firearm somewhere you did not plan to stop.
This video is for ordinary civilian travelers flying domestically inside the United States. International firearm travel is a separate issue with extra rules.

Firearm laws, TSA procedures, airline policies, state laws, local rules, and court interpretations can change. Always verify the current TSA rules, your airline’s firearm policy, and the firearm laws of every state or city you are traveling from, through, and to before flying with a firearm. When in doubt, contact your airline, TSA, or a qualified attorney in the relevant jurisdiction.
