What does PM Modi's climate change goals at CoP26 Glasgow mean for India? Sunita Narain explains.

Climate Change activist and Director General of Centre for Science and Environment, Sunita Narain explains India's new Climate change commitments that India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi made at the high level segment CoP26 in Glasgow. Mr Modi presented India's new set of climate goals that include:

1) India will increase its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030 

2) India will fulfill 50% of its energy requirement from renewable energy by 2030.

3) Between now and 2030, India will reduce its total projected emission by 1 billion tonnes. 

4) by 2030, India will reduce the carbon intensity of its economy by 45%

5) By 2070 India will achieve the its net zero targets 2070

Ms Narain explains that India did not take up these commitments because it is responsible for climate change, but because India seeks transformation and equity in the climate change actions.
