Understanding Pathologies of Power in the Age of COVID-19

Partners In Health joined the Chicago-based organization Invisible Institute to co-host a special virtual panel event featuring PIH Co-founder Dr. Paul Farmer, Invisible Institute Founder Jamie Kalven, Dr. Thomas Fisher of University of Chicago Medicine, and moderated by journalist Dawn Turner. The panel discussed the systemic conditions affecting the health, safety, and freedom to flourish of those living in marginalized communities, from Chicago’s South Side to Haiti’s Central Plateau, as well as how COVID-19 has exposed power structures affecting these communities. The conversation was an illuminating discussion of the national and global crisis of racism and its intersection with health outcomes, a persistent problem in cities across the US and vulnerable communities around the globe.
