Denver to Rocky Mountain National Park: Old Fall River Road & Trail Ridge Road (27 of 419)

In July 2019 we picked up Diana's brother Jānis from Denver International Airport and kicked off a two-week road trip of Colorado's National Parks by heading to Rocky Mountain National Park.

We start by spending a day near Denver to allow Jānis to start acclimatizing to the altitude because he came from sea level and Denver is above 5000 ft and Rocky Mountain is above 7500 feet. We head to Rocky Mountain National Park and there we camp at Glacier Basin Campground. On the first full day of exploring we take it easy and drive the Old Fall River Road and along the way stop at Alluvial Fan, hike on Chapin Creek Trail and stop at Alpine Visitor Center. We continue on Trail Ridge road (the highest paved through-road in the US) to the other side of the park to Grand Lake where Jānis goes for a swim.
