Maplewood Marine Restoration Project: Eelgrass transplanting work

Have you ever wondered what eelgrass transplanting looks like? In summer 2021, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority successfully completed the eelgrass transplanting works as part of the Maplewood Marine Restoration Project. The port authority worked with Indigenous groups on the planning and implementation of this eelgrass transplant. At 1.5 hectares in size, it is the largest eelgrass transplant ever to be performed in Burrard Inlet. As is the case with all Habitat Enhancement Program projects, annual monitoring will be completed at the site to ensure the restored marine habitat meets its biophysical objectives.
