MY BRITISH WIFE MAKES MOONG DAL KA HALWA | MOONG DAL SHEERA RECIPE

Hello and Sat Shri Akal to our amazing subscribers!

Since so many of you had tried our jalebi recipe; we thought it was time to bake another Indian dessert! This one is super easy as it is only a few ingredients and so simple. We hope you enjoy it if you make it at home - and let us know if there's any other recipes you'd like us to try!

RECIPE:

Ingredients:

1 cup of Moong dal
1 cup of sugar
ghee
Around 3 teaspoons of cardamom powder
2 cups of milk
Any dried fruits/nuts you would like to add (we used a small amount of cashews, almonds, and walnuts)

Directions:

Firstly, wash the moong dal well with water until the water is clearer to rinse them of any dirt or starch that is extra. Then, add these to a fry pan and roast until they are dried and golden brown and hard (for around 5 minutes). Once this is done put these aside on a plate to cool, and once cooled grind into a fine powder. Once in powder form, add back into the fry pan with around 4 tablespoons of ghee and cook until a golden brown (which again should take around 5 minutes). Then, add in 2 cups of milk, and 1 cup of water and stir well. Turn the heat right down to make it slow cook and stir often to ensure no clumps come. Cook this until thick and combined.

Whilst this is cooking, add in a couple of teaspoons of ghee to a separate frying pan and add the fruit/nuts you have chosen and roast them for a few minutes to ensure they are crunchy. Once the other mixture is done add in sugar and stir well. Next add in the cardamom powder and half of the fruit/nuts, and around 1/4 cup of ghee (more if needed). Stir all this well and turn the heat up and cook for a couple of minutes until mixture is thick and ready.

When this is done, serve in bowls and garish it with the rest of the fruit/nut that have been roasted and enjoy!
