Val Kilmer is an American actor that has gone down in history as one of the biggest stars of the 1980s and 1990s. Over the course of his career, he has starred in such hit feature films as Top Gun, Tombstone, and Heat. He also played Batman in the 1995 feature Batman Forever. However, the actor’s career took a slight dip at the turn of the century after a few box office disasters. As well, the actor received some bad news in the 2010s that essentially put an end to his career in Hollywood completely.

Val was a dedicated thespian in his early days, being one of the youngest applicants ever accepted to the Julliard School’s Dramatic Division. From there, Val became a dramatic actor to be reckoned with on the stage before eventually turning his sights toward Hollywood. His breakout cinematic performance came in the form of the comedy spoof Top Secret! From there, he appeared in the 1985 comedy Real Genius and the hit action blockbuster Top Gun.

In the 1990s, Val was given the challenging task of portraying Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s biographical film The Doors. Val prepared for the role for over a year, delivering a performance that was met with universal critical acclaim. Val did such a good job mimicking Jim Morrison that his own singing voice was used in the film. From there, Val continued appearing in notable films, including in the 1993 Western Tombstone alongside Kurt Russell.

In 1995, Val played Batman in the film Batman Forever. This gained Val more mainstream notoriety than ever before. Val remained on top of the world for a number of years until starring in the 2000 science fiction film Red Planet. That film was a financial disaster and ended Val’s most successful period. Despite a few notable performances here and there, Val’s career subsequently took a gradual decline leading up to his cancer diagnosis in the 2010s.
