We’re constantly filtering multiple moving pieces at once — ball, challenges, offside lines, player behaviour, advantage, dissent. Focus too narrowly and you risk missing something important in the periphery. Focus too broadly and you miss the key detail.

Sometimes what fans call “How did the ref miss that?!” is actually a lesson in human attention.
