Pro-Iran Protesters Flood Beirut Embassy As Lebanon Moves To Expel Tehran's Envoy | VERTEX

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Iranian embassy in Beirut on Thursday, waving Iranian and Hezbollah flags and voicing anger over Lebanon's decision to expel Tehran's ambassador. Demonstrators expressed solidarity with Iran and its leadership, with some declaring that their ties to Iran are rooted in what they described as "the resistance," rejecting attempts to weaken the alliance between Iran and Lebanon. Lebanon declared the Iranian ambassador persona non grata on Tuesday, giving him until Sunday to leave, following the expulsion of dozens of other Iranian nationals including diplomats earlier this month. Lebanese officials said the move did not represent a severing of diplomatic ties with Iran. Hezbollah, founded by Iran's Revolutionary Guards in 1982 and widely regarded as the spearhead of Tehran's regional alliance of armed actors, opened fire on Israel on March 2 in solidarity with Tehran, triggering an Israeli air and ground campaign in Lebanon. The protests come as Iran has told intermediaries that Lebanon must be included in any ceasefire agreement with the United States and Israel, with six regional sources familiar with Iran's position saying Tehran is linking an end to the war to a halt in Israel's offensive against Hezbollah.
