Driving Tour of Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood (from La Brea Ave to Doheny Dr) [4K]
West Hollywood, commonly referred to as WeHo, is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Incorporated in 1984, it is home to the Sunset Strip. It is considered one of the most prominent gay villages in the United States. West Hollywood is a trendy area known for its high-energy nightlife. The fabled Sunset Strip features the Chateau Marmont, a swanky celebrity hideaway, plus comedy clubs and live music venues like the legendary Whiskey a Go Go. Santa Monica Boulevard, awash in rainbow flags, is home to a number of gay bars, dance clubs and shops. WeHo also offers some of the city’s most buzzworthy restaurants.
The West Hollywood Halloween Carnival is an event that takes place annually on October 31. The largest Halloween street party in the United States (spanning over 1 mile (1.6 km) of Santa Monica Boulevard from La Cienega Boulevard on the East to Doheny and the Beverly Hills border on the West), the 2007 Carnival was reported to have more than 350,000 people in attendance, with some traveling from other countries specifically for the event.
Santa Monica Boulevard is the beating heart of West Hollywood. The heart of LA's LGBTQ community, the Boulevard is home to Boystown bars and clubs, the annual Halloween Carnaval community gathering, and the Christopher Street West Pride Festival and Parade, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020.
After the City of West Hollywood acquired control of the state-owned boulevard from the state department of transportation in 1999, reconstruction commenced. Two years, 1,200 trees, and $34 million later, Santa Monica Boulevard reopened as a complete street, a multi-modal thoroughfare with thriving businesses that serve a diverse population. The redesigned street and several adjacent structures, including a new library and affordable housing building, include green features. Santa Monica Boulevard also incorporates large amounts of public art, and new and proposed parking regulations will improve the economic viability of businesses located along this historic right-of-way.
