It was the final day at the 2020 Burton US Open, and the top riders in men’s halfpipe snowboarding were set to close out the week in style. Scotty James, Jan Scherrer, 𝙿𝚊𝚝 𝙱𝚞𝚛𝚐e𝚗𝚎𝚛 and more of the world’s best made it through qualifying on the new modified superpipe, featuring a 13-foot minipipe that transitioned into a full-on superpipe. What went down was something special, an all-time competition in which the riders to things to a new level of performance and put down three runs that surpassed a score of 90 points. Most importantly, it was a moment to celebrate the life of the one and only Jake Burton Carpenter, with a massive group poach that featured some of the biggest names in snowboarding, past and present, and a surprise appearance from Shaun White.
