“For nearly a century, the colossal statue of Ramesses II remained incomplete. In 1930, archaeologists discovered only the lower half buried in the mud of El Ashmunein, leaving the great Pharaoh as a mysterious ‘headless ghost.’
For decades, historians believed the missing upper half was lost forever to the Nile.
But in March 2026, a joint Egyptian-American archaeological mission finally uncovered the missing piece buried beneath thousands of years of Nile silt. When reassembled, the statue stands nearly 23 feet tall, making it one of the largest seated statues of Ramesses the Great ever discovered.
Even more intriguing are the mysterious inscriptions on the back of the statue, including a rare ‘Star Title’ that some researchers connect to the ancient Seba texts.
This discovery not only restores a monumental image of one of Egypt’s greatest Pharaohs but also reveals new clues about the symbolism, power, and hidden knowledge of ancient Egypt.
