Unconventional Education | Synee Pearson, Ed.D. | TEDxComptonBlvdWomen
In her talk, Unconventional Education, Dr. Synee Pearson discusses the principals of using methods that appeal to the learning style of children to get them to learn content that they do not otherwise connect with. These methods encompass disguised learning and soft skill development. Additionally, Dr. Pearson unpacks how Unconventional Education assists children as they find their voice in the curriculum. Student voice allows children to become collaborators and true contributors in their educational experience, community, and society at large.
Dr. Synee Pearson founded S.E.E.D. Camp in 2017 to address the gaps in soft skill education. She believes that children have better opportunities in life if they develop the social, esteem and entrepreneurial skills to navigate a changing world. With a team of educators, she set out to ensure that children have access to educational tools to find their voice. Dr. Pearson believes youth should be given options to choose their future. As a career educator, she enjoys teaching and advocating for students of all ages. She earned a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading and crafting. She is grounded through her faith and walk with God. This talk was filmed during a TEDx event using the TED conference format during the COVID-19 pandemic, with only a limited audience of cast and crew. TEDxComptonBlvd is an independently organized event. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Synee Pearson founded S.E.E.D. Camp in 2017 to address the gaps in soft skill education.
