Fear of the water? Afraid of swimmng pools? Aquaphobia? Learn to swim in a few steps.
Prevent yourself from drowning by learning the front crawl (freestyle) in a few incremental steps. Always swim in a supervised place. Go slowly and do not worry if this is hard for you. You're not alone. Check out Episode 2 on treading water: https://youtu.be/wG-5QMeoCyk
1) Get goggles (required) and a swim cap (optional but helpful)
2) Slowly get into the pool using the stairs or ladder
3) Dunk your head first by holding your nose, and then by breathing out slowly through your nose
4) Float, face down
5) Kick with a kickboard; breathe by lifting your head out of the water
6) Grab the kickboard with one hand, and pull (propel yourself forward) using the other arm; breathe on the side where you are pulling
7) Repeat step 6, but without the kickboard; use your outstretched hand to create an axis around which you rotate to breathe
8) Alternate pulling with both arms, but breathe only on one side (the most comfortable side for you)
You may need to practice each step many times before moving on to the next one; that's fine. Go slowly! Practice each step as slowly as you think possible, then slow it down some more. Good luck and stick with it!
