Hi, I’m Sarah (she/her). I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) holding a Master’s degree in Counselling from City University and I am registered with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Originally from the scenic west coast of Galway, Ireland, I am a first generation immigrant who has called Vancouver home for the past 8 years. My personal journey has provided me with firsthand insights into the complexities of immigration including the challenges of loneliness, identity struggles, and loss. Additionally, within my family of origin, I have confronted the impacts of intergenerational trauma in post-colonial Ireland.

Over the last decade my professional endeavours have spanned various non-profit organizations offering support to both children and adults. My experiences have taken me across the globe with roles in Australia, New Zealand, England, and Ireland. Primarily I have supported adults with backgrounds of incarceration, homelessness, mental health and substance use. Working with communities affected by historical and present day trauma has significantly influenced my counselling approach.

I adopt a relational developmental framework to counselling, applying a trauma informed and anti-oppressive lens. My focus is on creating a warm, secure and trusting environment where you feel supported and seen. My instinct is to be curious about the impact of family, culture, community, religion, institutions and social norms on our development and relationships to ourselves, others and the world around us. The impact of these systems can be deep seated, like the roots of a tree. I am a warm, genuine, compassionate, curious and non-judgemental person. I love to laugh, I truly believe in the power of humour to connect us and lighten the shadows.

Beyond my counselling practice, I engage in a diverse range of interests including running, hiking, biking, reading, cooking, talking to my plants, camping, immersing myself in music, singing to whoever will listen, savouring chocolate, and exploring new curly hair products.
