The Ferrari 348 is not one of the most widely regaled cars in the celebrated automaker’s line of vehicles, but if we take a closer look and reevaluate it, we might find that it is one of Ferrari’s more underrated cars. The Ferrari 348 marked the end of an era for Ferrari because it was their last V8 mid-engined car developed under the stewardship of Enzo Ferrari before his death. It is also the last Ferrari design supervised by chief stylist Leonardo Fioravanti. The 348 was available in a wide variety of models. It was available as a coupe, a spider, and a targa top version with a lift off roof. It was sold from 1989 to 1994 and was the third in line of Ferrari’s mid-engined autos; it followed the 308 and 328 and preceded the 355.

That is one of the problems with the reputation of the Ferrari 348, it is stuck between more famous models. Even though it could never match the 355, it was comfortably superior to the 328 in terms of performance, especially in handling. The 348 was one of the last Ferraris that did not have power steering, and as a result, it gives the driver a feeling of visceral connection to the vehicle and to the road that you just cannot get with other vehicles.

The steering of the Ferrari 348 is a thing of legend, outclassing all of its contemporaries, like the Honda NSX, and even offers a stiff challenge to more modern supercars due to its impressive feedback. It is not the most attractive of all the Ferraris, but it does have its own appeal; the side strakes on the doors that are such a standout feature on the Testarossa also lend the 348 some impressive visual appeal. The Ferrari 348 may not be everyone’s favorite Ferrari, but it is just as iconic as any other car in the Italian automaker’s stable.
