From mid-August through mid-September Yellowstone Bison are actively in rut, and throughout the breeding season bulls fight and massive herds are on the move from one breeding ground to another. It is startling to be on the roadways during rut and experience America's largest land mammals taking over the highway right-of-ways ,despite the size of the vehicles they encounter.
