The Higher Pragmatism by O. Henry
In this short story, O. Henry briefly discusses knowledge and wisdom and how one acquires them, using this as a setup for his short story. It's about a newspaper reporter who meets a vagrant on a park bench, hoping to get a good story. The vagrant, an ex-boxer, ends up giving the reporter some advice that changes his life, and the story ends with a twist. Note: In the opening, the narrator mistakenly says O.Henry wrote a column for the Houston Chronicle, when in fact, it was the Houston Post.
