The majority of job seekers only apply for jobs and then do nothing else. They will be unhappy if they don't receive a response because they will be expecting an interview call or a reply. Don't give up after submitting a job application.

After submitting an application for a job, follow the company on LinkedIn and connect with employees in the departments you want to work in. Alternatively, make a connection request to a manager, HR staff member, or recruiter.

First, while sendinng connection, there is an option ‘Add a Note’
When you click on ‘Add a Note’ you can send your first message there.

Example: I have been following (company name). I came across your profile and your current role stood out for me. I would love to connect with you and grow my network with (the company name)

If the person accepts your connection request,

Example: Thanks for accepting my connection request. I recently applied for the (job role) at (company name) and I am really excited about the opportunity. If you have any advice on the process or know someone I could connect with from the team, I would appreciate it. And, if it‘s something you feel comfortable referring me for, that would be really helpful.
