Granny's mekici (Bulgarian doughnuts) recipe

Nothing is tastier than this prepared from the grandma :)
Mekici are a type of fried dough,served for breakfast very popular in Bulgaria. Their taste is similar to doughnuts. Usually the pastry is served for breakfast when staying in guest houses or small hotels in the mountains. Best combined with homemade jams, honey or feta cheese.

Ingredients (for 12):
2 lbs(900g) all-purpose flour
3 eggs
½ cup (400g) plain yogurt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp vegetable oil
vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
1. Add the baking soda to the yogurt and mix to activate it.
2. In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients( except the flour) and beat them toghether with the eggs.
3. Sift the flour and start adding it slowly while whisking using a fork(recommended for a soft dough) or a whisk.
4. Then, knead a soft dough. Knead until dough becomes nice and smooth. (The more you knead the better the dough becomes).
5. Pull the dough by hand and if it doesn't tear apart or separate, then it is good. Let it rest for about 40 minutes(of course it depends on the ambient temperature, warmer temperature-shorter time).
6.Make small dough balls and place them in a pot heavily covered with oil. Roll the balls in the oil and leave it stay for 15 mins more.
7. Pour oil in a deeper pan and place pan to warm up. Oil hands, form round shapes from dough, making a whole in the middle and put to fry until they got beautiful golden color.
8. Serve with powdered sugar,(feta) cheese, jam or honey.
