Dostoyevsky Anniversary

It’s 200 years since the birth of Dostoyevsky. To mark this we have continued the series
@_isabel_menezes_ has devised #litupart using great quotes from Russian literature to accompany works from the State Hermitage Museum collection. This extract is taken from “Netochka Nezvanova" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The work chosen to accompany it is Guitar and Violin, by Pablo Picasso c.1912 from the State Hermitage Museum Collection.

We are also extremely grateful to TV actor @julesknightofficial who once again narrates this so beautifully for us.

Father seemed to breathe more freely once he had finished his task. This time nothing hindered him, but all the same he was troubled by something. Moving the candle, he stood with his face towards the door, avoiding the bed. Eventually he took the violin and, with a gesture of despair, drew the bow across it… The music began…
