The Dounis Method | Playing With Your Natural Instincts
LEARN THE VIOLIN USING THE DOUNIS METHOD

The Dounis Method has been misunderstood by most people ever since Dounis created it. While on the surface it may seem like a complex and exhaustive set of finger and bow exercises, it's actually much more.
Through his incredible observational skills, Dounis was able break down the science of the expressive playing, by watching and listening to the great players (Ysaye, Kreisler, Heifetz, etc). He then created a method which gave his students the ability to play like the great players that he observed.
His method consists of many exercises which re-teach the student to use their natural instincts when playing. All the great players used their natural instincts in their playing, and that's why their playing sounded, looked and felt so natural.
The alternative to natural instincts (which most people use), are conditioned reflexes. These are bad habits often associated with tension, like squeezing the bow, a tight arm while doing vibrato, and much more. The good news is that your natural instincts can replace your conditioned reflexes, and that's when you start to notice improvement.
I hope to share many Dounis exercises, (like playing on a smooth surface), to help you do just that.
