To have a "transformational dialogue" about death is a marvelous opportunity. We tend to avoid such conversations until they are forced upon us, so being able to share stories and experiences openly together is a gift. It is my hope that you will go home empowered to consciously explore with others how you wish to die and be cared for after death. I want us to "re-imagine" what is possible at the threshold, rather than simply accepting the normal conventional practices of the existing funeral industry -- practices that are prohibitively costly to us and to our environment. We will explore the burgeoning movement of natural death practices, like home funeral vigils and green burials, and the healing and sustaining gifts such an engagement and reclamation is bringing individuals, families, communities and the Earth.


Lucinda Herring is honored to be part A Sacred Moment, Inc, in Everett, WA, the first woman-owned funeral service in the country to offer home funeral vigils and green burials as a central vision. She is a Certified Home Funeral Consultant/ Guide and will soon be a licensed funeral director in Washington. Lucinda is also an ordained Lorian minister and holds an Incarnational Spirituality Masters in Spiritual Direction (specializing in death and dying) with David Spangler and the Lorian Association. She is developing a consulting business that combines spiritual companioning with practical and professional end of life planning, a support that is much needed today. As a long time community member here on Whidbey, Lucinda is known for helping many people re-engage with each other and the natural world at key threshold times in life, through seasonal festival-making and meaningful rituals and ceremonies for change.
