From the converted rail cars, known as the "lunch car" to car hops delivering food at the drive-in, diners were the social hub of the 1950s. They evolved from cheap places to grab a bite to eat, to hangout spots for teens escaping their parents. Often they were open 24 hours and served classic American food- from burgers to milkshakes.

Diners have become a symbol of prosperity and optimism, especially during America in the 1950s.
