A British actress Emma Thompson, who rose to stardom due to the moviemaking industry as well as theatre, was born in the spring of 1959. She was lucky to be welcomed into a family of actors and so, from early childhood, she knew that her true pursuit of life is acting.
She started her professional career on a stage of a theatre but gradually moved on and soon enough debuted in a movie called Cambridge Footlights Revenue of 1982. The father Eric was a well-known figure in the entertainment world in his own right. He worked as a producer, actor and TV presenter. He met the love of his life Phyllida in 1957 during one of acting classes and that same year the two love birds tied the knot officially. Together they produced two kids. Eric passed away in 1982, aged 53 from a heart attack.

The mother’s name is Phyllida and she was also a part of the filmmaking world as an actress. She is very proud of all daughter’s achievements.

The celebrity has a sister Sophie, who was delivered in 1962. It wouldn’t be surprising to say that she is also an actress and appeared in many hit movies, including Harry Potter, Four Weddings, Eat Pray Love and others. In addition to that, Sophie is an amazing cook and she has even won Celebrity Master Chef in 2014. As for her personal life, she had been married to Richard Lumsden since 1995 till 2015 with whom she gave birth to two kids.

Coming closer to Emma’s personal life, she was married twice with a filmmaker and actor Kenneth Branagh being her first spouse. The couple met in 1987 on a set of a movie and after two years of dating got married. Six years later they filed for a divorce, as Branagh fell in love with another woman.

Since 2003 and up till present moment Thompson has been happily married to a producer and actor Greg Wise. They played together in Sense and Sensibility of 1995 and so, their romance started at that same time. They are now parents to two children.

The movie star’s firstborn, a daughter Gaia was welcomed in 1999 even before Emma got officially married to Wise. Gaia is the only biological child and she was conceived with the help of in vitro fertilization. She is also an actress and has already managed to appear in a couple of movies alongside her stellar mother. Apart from that, Gaia devotes a lot of time to social issues such as environment.

In 2004 Thompson and her husband adopted a son Tindyebwa, who was born in Rwadan in 1987. At the age of 12, his biological dad died and he was soon kidnapped by militia and taught to be a child soldier. At 16 he came to the UK as a refugee, where he met Emma during one of Refugee Council events. Nowadays, Tindyebwa has a degree in human rights law and helps refugees from Africa.
