Around 75,000 visitors are expected to attended the completely sold out Wacken Open Air, the world's largest heavy metal festival, with visitors beginning to pour into the village of Wacken, in northern Germany on Wednesday.

The W:O:A, as it is known worldwide, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Set to take place from Thursday to Saturday, over 200 bands will be present, featuring big names from the world of metal, including Slayer, Anthrax, Uriah Heep and Bullet for my Valentine.

Footage shows thousands of metal fans already arriving at the small German village and walking on the city centre, drinking and warming up for the big party.

"It is peaceful, [there is] no violence, it is just peaceful to be together with 75,000 other people. It is like you come back after three or four years and you certainly know you meet this and that person, the people in the village are all the there, it is just wicked, it is just like coming home," said Jurgen, a festival fan.

A small village 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of Hamburg, Wacken turns into a massive festival area, including bars, food places and shops.

''The community is influenced by the festival, its partly omnipresent, and actually is like a fifth season for us, and we are looking forward to the festival happening again," said local mayor Axel Kunkel.
