The Sportsmatic line debuted in 1963 with the Seiko “5 Sports” designation. The “5 Sports” line watches were designed to provide reasonably priced automatic sports watches with a day/date window and three bar water resistance.

Seiko introduced the Sportsmatic 5 in 1963. This new line of watches set a new standard in accessibly priced mechanical watches. At the top of the Sportsmatic line, Seiko’s “Deluxe” models offered affordable sophistication and classic mid-century design.
