1: It is necessary to know the system of needle that your machine uses which is just a number. In most cases, machines need 135 x 17 needles but use your manual to find exactly the needle system you need. Alternatively, you can also search for the needles compatible with the model of your sewing machine on google
2: I suggest a standard universal needle because it is suitable for all situations. Also known as R-point.
3: The size of your needle depends on 2 things: you want to poke the smallest hole through your material as you can but it still has to do 2 things. It still needs to fit the thread through that needle without breaking the thread and it needs to be strong enough to sew through the material without breaking. I sugest starting out with size 18, 20 and 22.
4: For the thread: 95% of the time, I use the size 92 bonded polyester
