As a Field Training Officer (FTO) I find that many new recruits have all sorts of ideas that some guy at the police supply store sold them on. There seems to be an entire industry that revolves around taking the money of new cops. For most guys with a new police job they are more than happy to spend their money on a new gizmo that is tactical black and ultra better than the last whizz-bang thingamawatzit. They just got a great new good paying job and/or the department is paying for the gear.
Security personnel however are often far under paid for the work that they do. Budgets are tighter and gear needs to be cost effective but useful.
Today I am focusing a little more on the security folks out there. We are going to look at the old standby flashlights in the industry which can be had fairly cheaply, and at the new stuff which gives you the performance you need without extra things you don’t (like a $175 price tag).
