‘They are fleecing us’: Major shopping outlets slammed over paper bag prices
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says Australians facing the cost-of-living crisis are being “fleeced” with the price of paper bags.
“I would like to take the opportunity to share my two cents with the CEO of Woolworths … if he’s that concerned with the cost-of-living for Australians, why the hell is he charging us 25 cents for these rubbish paper bags,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Paul Murray.
“Then they said they wanted to protect the environment and go to plastic … 25 cents for a rubbish paper bag – they are making a fortune out of us.
“They’d made a big song and dance about how they were saving the trees, saving the environment; now they’ve gone back to paper, and they’re charging us double for it.
“They’re fleecing us.”
