Lexington Market in West Baltimore | America's Oldest Market from 1782? | ExLog 70
Lexington Market is entirely sketchy. Once a great establishment, it has surely fallen from grace. Would you eat here?

Thanks for watching, guys! While Lexington Market claims to be from 1782, the facts are slightly misleading. John Eager Howard owned land in this area back in 1782, and drew a map deciding to place a market there. Commerce was done, but only on the street at what was called the "West Precinct Market". In 1803 a small shed was built to house some of the vendor's goods. They expanded outward in 1818, but it wasn't until 1900 that an actual building was constructed, and the place was renamed to the "Lexington Market". In 1949, however, at 3:30am, an electrical fire broke out and burned the entire structure to the ground. They rebuilt in 1952 with the building we focused on in the video, which was the East Market. The West Market was also built, and that is when the catacombs were found. Then, in 1982, during Mayor Schaeffer's grand revitalization efforts, and after Harborplace was built by Jim Rouse, the Lexington Market Arcade was built. This lasted until just recently, when it was demolished to make way for a brand new structure. Who knows what will come of it?
