Nach dem Abstieg aus der 2. Bundesliga in der Saison 2014/15 schafft der Fußballclub aus dem Erzgebirgsstädtchen (ca.17.000 Einwohner) mit einem komplett neuen, jungen und unerfahrenen Team wider Erwarten den direkten Wiederaufstieg in der 3. Bundesligasaison 2015/16. Dazu wird der Wernesgrüner Sachsenpokal gegen den Lokalrivalen FSV Zwickau gewonnen.
Doch in Aue hebt keiner ab oder träumt gar von höheren Sphären und schnellem Erfolg, wie andere Vereine so oft in der Vergangenheit. Diese Bodenständigkeit und Bescheidenheit hat seine Wurzeln in der Geschichte der ehrlichen und harten Bergbauarbeit in der Montanregion Erzgebirge. After the descent from the 2nd German Bundesliga in the season 2014/15 the football club of a small town (ca. 17. 000 inhabitant) in the Ore Mountains (Germany) makes the direct reclimb in the 3rd German Bundesliga season 2015/16 with a completely new, young and inexperienced team against all expectations. In addition the Wernesgrüner Saxon's cup was won against the local rival FSV Zwickau.
However, nobody takes off or dreams even of higher spheres and quick success in Aue how other football clubs did so often in the past. This down-to-earthness and modesty has his roots in the history of the honest and hard mining work in the Ore Mountains.
