Qld govt 'hasn’t listened' to public servants who are under ‘more pressure than ever’

Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli says the state’s government “hasn’t properly listened” to frontline public servants because they are under “more pressure than ever”.

Queensland’s health workforce shortages have resulted in a 16 per cent increase in the costs to meet service demands, with staff overtime increasing by 20 per cent to cover the shortage.

“We want public servants to go to work and feel valued and respected, and we want to make sure we attract the best to join the ranks and make sure we value and respect the ones who are there,” Mr Crisafulli said at a press conference on Saturday.

“It’s important that ministers who lead departments and lead these organisations are held accountable for the culture and the feeling of self-worth.

“When you speak to frontline public servants, they tell you they’re under more pressure than ever before, and that’s because the government hasn’t properly listened and resources them, but it’s also they haven’t given the culture to put them in charge.

“It’s up to ministers to make sure that culture in departments are at a point that people want to go to work and they feel valued and respected.”
