Theoretical Perspectives on Probing BH Population with Astrometric Satellite Gaia - Minori Shikauchi
Minori Shikauchi (University of Tokyo)
The astrometric satellite Gaia can detect black hole-luminous companion (BH-LC) binaries by observing the sinusoidal motion of the LCs. The detectable BH-LC binaries' orbital period can be longer than that of BH X-ray binaries in the Milky Way and extragalactic binary BHs detected in gravitational wave (GW), leading many people to speculate that Gaia may reveal a different BH population than the X-ray and GW observations. In this talk, I will present our results (MS+2020, 2022, and MS+2023 for a brief summary) theoretically estimating properties of BH-LC binaries. We estimated that several to tens of BH-LC binaries are detected with Gaia during the five-year observation and found some important implications for future observations.
