MTA New York City Bus 2017 Alexander Dennis Enviro500 SuperLo Demonstration Bus 0022

The MTA made an interesting decision to test out another double decker bus on express service. This time, an Enviro500 SuperLo from Alexander Dennis. The last time the MTA tested a double decker bus was roughly 10 years ago, when they tested a Vanhool Double Decker.

This bus was testing for about a month, as it wrapped up its testing on May 25th. There's been a lot of talk that the MTA will not pursue a future order with Alexander Dennis for the Enviro500 SuperLo because the bus can only fit in two depots, Charleston Depot in Staten Island & Mother Clara Hale Depot in Manhattan.

Feedback was also 50/50 on this bus. Some people liked it, some people hated it to the point where they actually skipped this bus and waited for the next x17J. This bus leaves New York City this coming Wednesday.

This bus is powered by a Cummins ISL9 engine rated at 380HP, with an Allison B500R6 Gen V transmission.
