Portal 2 - Final Boss Medley (Arr. for Two Pianos)

!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!

A two-piano arrangement of the music that plays during the final boss battle against Wheatley in the video game Portal 2. This consists of two pieces, "Bombs for Throwing at You" (also "Four Part Plan") and "Your Precious Moon" (sometimes known as "Shoot the Moon"). I took liberties in arranging the mechanical sections (by completely re-writing them).

The climatic boss fight in Portal 2 - as the imminent complete annihilation of Aperture, with all its long and tedious efforts, rests on you, the player, you can't help but feel under immense pressure. This is greatly amplified by these themes, which outline both the player's and Wheatley's struggles through the fight.

The use of leitmotifs in "Bombs for Throwing at You" shows the struggles of Wheatley as he tries to retain control over himself and the facility. At first, we're presented with a direct reference to "Omg, What Has He Done?", reminding us of the destruction he's caused to Aperture. Then, we're thrown into a faster, more intense section as the fight starts. What I'll refer to as the "Mainframe" motif is shown here (it appears first in "You Know Her?"). It's a well-supported theory that the mainframe is what causes Wheatley and GLaDOS to become overwhelmed with power, so this motif shows how the mainframe takes over Wheatley's will. Next, the arpeggios used frequently throughout the game appear. Some have taken this to be GLaDOS' leitmotif, though I sort of see it as the "Aperture Science" motif as arpeggios are present in nearly all tracks in the game. This is over the chord progression seen in "I AM NOT A MORON!". Later, we're also presented with the Wheatley motif present in said track, overlayed on top of the arpeggios. I see this as Wheatley fighting to fix the facility, but in the other view, it can show GLaDOS and Wheatley vying for control of the crumbling Centre (the slight offset of the Wheatley motif can also show Wheatley's weakness, in that he's trapped within the Mainframe's control). I could say so much more about this piece, but this is getting hecking long so i'll stop

I may do an analysis on BfTaY, if I have the time.

One more thing to note is that both "Don't Do It" and "Reconstructing More Science" are both featured in "Your Precious Moon". The former, a callback to when you had to push the button to transfer Wheatley into the Mainframe, and the second, is in a way the "Main Theme" of the game, so it's fitting to place it in the ending sequence.

If you are an older follower of me on Musescore you'd probably find this sort of familiar - that's because I made an arrangement in the same vein as this before, around 2016. I re-made the arrangement again to look less like a pile of garbage.
