Lake Ilopango - BRITISH Couple Backpacking El Salvador [S3-E57]

Lake Ilopango is a short drive away from El Salvador's capital city San Salvador. We visit this wonderful lake as part of our Backpacking El Salvador series.

Lake Ilopango is a volcanic lake, created when a huge eruption happened in around 410 AD and it was about 20 times as much as the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. Today although there is still activity below the water (see our diving video on lake Ilopango) now the lake is calm, with clear waters and local either swim or fish in it. It makes a great day out from the city of San Salvador.

In case you don't know us - let us introduce ourselves - we are Chris (48) & Marianne (51). We are a British married travel couple. We recently quit our jobs and sold our belongings to travel full time.

After more than 22 years of marriage we are still best friends
