Metal Fence Reinforcement Across Every Timber Post

A fence rarely gains strength from thickness alone. Sometimes the improvement comes from how separate parts are connected.

Here, a 40×6 mm steel flat bar is driven across the tops of closely spaced timber posts. Each hammer strike seats the steel against the natural variations of the wood while maintaining continuous contact along the fence line.

Instead of allowing every post to react independently to wind loads and ground movement, the steel creates a shared load path across dozens of connections. The result is a longer structure that distributes force more evenly along its length.

It is a simple example of reinforcement by continuity: adding relatively little material while changing how the entire system behaves.

Good tools and technology make work more enjoyable.
