Black Tusk Winter Ascent (Nov 30, 2025)
The Black Tusk is an iconic landmark in the Whistler backcountry. Its' protruding spire is truly a formidable sight. I've climbed to the false summit in the summer and spring, and now I wanted to try for a winter ascent.
After 2 failed attempts due to deteriorating weather, I returned a third time. I learned my lessons from my previous attempts and started earlier at 3am (which I find is really hard when the back of the suv you're sleeping in is a freezer box).
After 8 hours and ~15km, I found myself on top of the White Tusk and was rewarded with an incredible view of Garibaldi Lake followed by some epic turns down the south face.
