Shutter Priority (TV mode)

Shutter priority is a semi automatic mode on your camera where you can choose a shutter speed and your camera will go find an aperture to match it for the correct exposure (http://www.photographycourses.biz/understanding_exposure.html)

Shutter priority is handy when you want to create movement effects such as blur when panning, a misty looking waterfall or to freeze motion like a skate boarder.

Be careful with shutter priority if your just starting out in photography. Because the camera goes to find an aperture to work with your chosen shutter speed and there are not many apertures to choose from, you can find yourself in a situation where you've chosen a 1000th second shutter, but there's not much light about and the camera can't achieve an exposure because the lens is already on it's widest aperture and there's not enough light to make the exposure.

If you're shooting in shutter priority then you'll probably need to use your ISO speed settings too.
