Electrical Problems at RV Campgrounds / Progressive Industries Surge & Electrical Protector

While many campgrounds seem to be doing the right thing and performing maintenance on their electrical pedestals, some of them are waiting until something goes wrong to fix it or, worse, ignoring the problem.

Fortunately our Progressive Industries RV Surge & Electrical Protector has automatically caught these problems and shut power off to our trailer prior to damage occurring. https://amzn.to/3liPbZ8

Here are just two locations in this video in California where we had low voltage problems that our RV Surge & Electrical Protector caught and saved us from damage to our RV electrical components and possibly causing a fire. These are just two examples out of six (6) different locations (four locations were in other States) where we have had high and low electrical voltage problems over the last four years.

I hope this information is helpful to you in some way. You can have a hardwired system like we have of or a portable plug in type Surge & Electrical Protector. They both serve the same purpose.

I am a retired electrical engineer in Canada however both the CSA (in Canada) and NEX (in US ) are both in sync with each other. That said that above ground wiring is pretty sketchy. The overhead distribution wire size needs to be greatly increased to be able to handle the load. It almost looks like the distribution wire is barely larger than the wire going down to the boxes. It was likely installed back in the day before AC units were common in RVs so this is a disaster looking to begin with insulation melting and a fire starting. Be forewarned.
