SINKEX #2 At RIMPAC-22 Sends Ex-USS Denver To Ocean Floor

The 2nd sinking exercise (SINKEX #2) of exercise Rim of the Pacific 2022 (RIMPAC-22) happened on July 26, 2022, with the target ship being the decommissioned USS Denver (LPD-9). The SINKEX took part in a relatively deep part of the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands after the ship had been put through a certified cleaning process, including removing all environmentally harmful material including trash, floatable material, mercury, fluorocarbon and petroleum. USS Denver was an Austin-class amphibious transport dock ship that was commissioned on October 26, 1968 and decommissioned on August 14, 2014. Ex-USS Denver was towed out of Pearl Harbor on July 20, 2022 for her last mission deployment.
