Dr Malcolm Kendrick talks about medical myths.

A basic tenet of science is that correlation does not imply or prove causation.

It seems some health recommendations are completely made up and have no scientific basis. This includes the linear model for blood pressure, healthy alcohol consumption levels, and recommended cholesterol levels.

In a world where the truth can be, literally, turned upside down, how can you know what to believe, and who to believe? A scottish educated doctor attempts to dig down to find the meaning behind the headlines.

Enter Dr Kendrick

Malcolm Kendrick is a Scottish doctor and author of The Great Cholesterol Con. He graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1981, has been a general practitioner for over 25 years, and has worked with the European Society of Cardiology.

He attempts to provide some balance to the increasingly strident healthcare lobby that seems intent on scaring everyone about almost everything. Is there a foodstuff that is safe to eat anymore? Is there any activity that does not cause cancer or heart disease?

In this radio interview Dr Kendrick discusses common research flaws that somehow have become accepted as fact… much to our detriment.

We should challenge convention and become self informed about health decisions made for us; becoming self informed may well save your life.

This video is an interview he gave on BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright show in August 2015.
