The Irish Volunteer (1861)

A first attempt at recording this with the bouzouki. Inspired by David Kincaid and following his arrangement of it; the Irish Volunteer. A song written during the American Civil War from the perspective of Tim McDonald, an Irish immigrant-turned-Union soldier in the 69th New York, Michael Corcoran’s Irish Legion. The tune it’s set to is called the “Irish Jaunting Car”, which was also used by Harry Macarthy, for the Bonnie Blue Flag.
