The bizarre goings-on at Highgate station have left local residents nonplussed for years.
The sound of trains moving through a train station probably doesn't strike you as particularly odd – but when the abandonment of a planned extension of the Northern line left one section of railway disused, and the rails removed, the sound of trains passing through continued.
When: The Northern line extension project was shelved at the end of the 1940s following the renovation of Highgate station, with the unexplained train noises occurring ever since!
Possible explanation: No explanation has ever been provided for this one – the tale of the Highgate ghost trains remains a mystery to this day.
