Tata Group to Build India’s First Fab in Dholera

The Tata Group, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), is set to establish India’s first state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication facility ("Fab") in Dholera, Gujarat. PSMC will provide advanced technology and execution support for this greenfield project, which will cater to global semiconductor markets in areas like automotive, computing, communications, and artificial intelligence (AI).

In a major step toward creating an indigenous semiconductor ecosystem under the "Make in India, For the World" initiative, the Government of India has approved Tata Electronics' proposal to build this mega semiconductor Fab. With an investment of ₹91,000 crore (~US$11 billion), the facility's construction will begin this year, generating over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs in the region. This marks Tata Electronics’ entry into the global semiconductor industry.

This Fab, India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor manufacturing plant, will have a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month. It will feature advanced automation technologies, including data analytics and machine learning, to achieve industry-leading factory efficiency. The facility will produce semiconductors for applications such as power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs), and high-performance computing logic. It will address the growing demand in sectors like automotive, computing, data storage, wireless communication, and AI.

Tata and PSMC’s partnership in Dholera is a revolutionary move for India’s semiconductor industry. It not only strengthens India’s self-reliance but also establishes its position as a significant player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
