When to Paint New Plaster | Guides | Quietco

The chimney stack in this video on the left has been plastered this morning and the plaster on the extension (party wall) on the right has been plastered 7 days ago.

The plaster on the party wall and extension wall is now ready to be primed with paint ready for new colour. The chimney stack on the other hand will need another 7 – 10 days to dry out before it can be primed and painted.

You should not try to speed up the plaster curing process up in order to try and paint earlier. If you are a landlord for example and you absolutely must paint earlier than the recommended 7 days we'd suggest you try to use a dehumidifier.
- Do not use heaters
- Do not create breeze blowing through by opening all the windows
- Don’t turn the heating up
All these things will cause cracking and with a plaster re-skim job may even fall off the wall. A dehumidifier however will shave days off the curing process and allow you to paint earlier.

When the plaster colour has changed to this light pink salmon colour where it is all consistently one colour and when you can run you fingers over it and a slight dust collects on your finger tips, then its ready to be painted.

We hope this short video has helped.
