Feet on the Ground, Eyes on the Stars: The True Story of a Real Rocket Man with G.A. “Jim” Ogle
For even more, please be sure to checkout the show notes at: https://userdefenders.com/rocketman
Welcome to this very special, quite literally out of this world episode with my father, G.A. “Jim” Ogle. You know how they say it doesn’t take a rocket scientist? Well, my Dad is one. On a recent vacation to Florida to celebrate his 80th birthday, he spent nearly three hours telling me his compelling story.
The first half is audio only, the last half is actual video from our compelling time together, followed by a super-special slideshow showing a lot of what my dad talks about related to his tragic accident, his high school baseball highlights, and on into his illustrious space career.
My dad definitely has a superhero origin story, and just like in the comics, it's got significant tragic beginnings, that he overcame to be in the right place at the right time when he ultimately become an important part of mankind's greatest achievement..putting the first men on the moon.
• Tragic Beginnings (08:50)
• Missiles (21:58)
• Meeting Wernher von Braun (42:36)
• Apollo I Fire (48:36)
• Moon Missions (55:55)
• How in the World Was this Possible? (1:07:27)
• Space Shuttle (1:27:57)
• Challenger: What Went Wrong? (1:45:35)
• Columbia: What Went Wrong? (2:02:08)
• Next Chapter of Space Travel (2:06:50)
• Takeaways from Space Stories (2:20:32)
• What Drove You to Overcome Your Adversity? (2:24:15)
